when I open MSN, a popup appears that Safari cannot identify ib.adnx.com

When I open MSN, a popup appears that Safari cannot verify the identify of the website ib.adnx.com website. The certificate for this website is invalid. You might be connecting to a website that is pretending to be "ib.adnx.com" which could put my confidential information at risk. Would you like to connect to the website anyway?

I checked online and recommends to download comboCleaner but I'm not sure about doing that. The page that recommends that gives the following information:

Ib.adnxs.com is one of the latest versions of browser hijacking page-redirects. This potentially unwanted application is a legitimate piece of software, which is supposed to improve the quality of the users’ online experience. However, some users, who have already encountered it, claim that Ib.adnxs.com not only does not make their web browsing any better but in fact it tends to replace their homepage or their search engine with some new and unfamiliar ones. The Privacy Policy of this program also reveals that the hijacker may keep a track on certain browsing-related information in an attempt to increase the users’ exposure to relevant commercial content (mostly ads, pop-ups, and banners) and redirect them to sites, relevant to their searches. Ib.adnxs.com may effectively get added to Safari,Chrome, Firefox, Opera, Edge, Internet Explorer and practically any other browser and it may extract browsing data from it for its online redirecting and advertising purposes. If you want to remove this program and uninstall the browser changes it has imposed, we suggest you carefully study the next paragraphs. They will give you some basic understanding of the characteristics of Ib.adnxs.com as well as the browser hijackers in general. At the end of the page, you will find also a Removal Guide and a professional Ib.adnxs.com removal tool, which will help you eliminate the real cause of the browsing disturbance once and for all.

Hi Eric

I made a mistake when I wrote this: "These are the operating systems that are compatible with my Mac:"

I meant to say that there are compatible drivers available for my printer in the following OS's:

Mac: MacOS Sierra v10.12 / Mac OS X v10.11 / Mac OS X v10.10 /Mac OS X v10.9 / Mac OS X v10.8 / Mac OS X v10.7 / Mac OS X v10.6 / Mac OS X v10.5 / Linux OS.

thank you for all the information on how to do back-ups. I need to learn about iCloud, Time Machine, and all the other items you listed to learn about the back-ups.

Thank you again for all your help.

You are welcome. Thomas's post makes the same suggestion that you need to upgrade.

I would upgrade to Sierra if that is the newest OS that there is a compatible print driver for.

Your Seagate plus external should be good for one backup drive. If you want to get a second one as I suggested, you might try looking at OWC. I have purchased RAM several times, a MacBook Pro battery, and a hard drive from Other World Computing and have always been very satisfied with the product and service.

Other World Computing

The backups will take a long time because you are doing an initial backup. After that, the backup time will be much shorter. You can continue to use your computer while the backups are being made.

In your Applications folder, do you see any applications you don't recognize? Is there one named Babylon?

Mar 24, 2018 8:37 PM in response to Eric Root

Thank you Eric

I didn't see the Babylon application. I copied the applications in the post of 3/22 @ 9:14 PM. I looked at some of the links you gave me and also looked at an issue of MacWorld which had an article about different back-up systems. I got a 15 day trial subscription to Backblaze and it finished the back-up this morning. I would check periodically to see the files being saved, and I know there are some I should have deleted before making the backup. Hopefully I can go into their system and delete the files I don't want.

After I finished the back-up, app store came up and suggested that I upgrade to High Sierra. I will follow your and Thomas' advice to upgrade. I will check out Other World Computing. Would the MacBook Pro battery work with my system? I don't know what the battery is for, I'll have to look that up.

I kept checking for answers to my questions yesterday but I know everyone is so busy. Thanks for your help and response. I was just desperate to get my system working good again, so I went ahead with the Backblaze. It got some pretty good reviews. I just want my computer to be OK because I have to do my taxes still. Some of the links that I opened came up with the stags.blukai note again so I closed them right away.

I'll do my upgrade tomorrow and will probably have more questions after that.

Hi Linda

Here is the website for Disconnect: Disconnect

There is no longer a version of Chrome available for Mavericks (I use Chrome 65, the latest is 66?). You could try Googling if running later than OS X 10.9.5, or download Firefox which is still supported. For any browsers except Safari, use the manufacturer's website not the App Store.

For back-ups of everything except your system, Time Machine is the best option. Or if you want a bootable clone of your machine, then use Carbon Copy Cloner which is usually reckoned to be the finest option for cloning. However, a clone is not suitable for upgrades as it is simply a copy of your existing setup. For upgrades, Time Machine is the best way.

It's entirely up to you whether you go for the Premium version or not. As I don't have this problem on my iOS device, where I'm using iOS11, I just use the free version for my desktop Mac. YMMV.

Yes, it doesn't do any harm to have two backups, but it's only really necessary for when you have a burglary or a fire. Normally one is enough, as your Mac and your TM disk won't both fail at the same time. But you still don't need Backblaze or similar - you can do a TM backup on two separate disks (one daily, one weekly, say) but keep the weekly disk offsite, i.e. not with your desktop and other TM disk.
