Emojis won't pop up in Mail anymore on MacBook Pro

Hi, I've ben using the shortcut ctrl-com-space to pull up the emoji pop-up menu in mail or msgs on my macbook pro and recently, I can't get it to come up in mail. It still works for messages and any other app, just not when I am composing an email. Any advice??

in OS Mojave 10.14.6 on iMac I cannot insert emojis when I click on the Emojis button There is an Emoji button in Mail and I have a cursor set where I want to insert an emoji, but the Emoji panel does not open when I click on that button.

Emoji Viewer Vanishes After One Second` Big Sr 11.4, Imac. In MacMail, Messages, Word for Mac: when I press Ctr-Alt-Space, or when I try Edit "emoji and symbols," a panel/viewer appear for a moment-- maybe less than a second-- then vanishes. I cannot find a way to keep the viewer open and visible.
