imovie not exporting

I am trying to export an imovie project but it is not rendering to a file. I have exported many clips over the last couple of years with this system with no problem. Many clips are long, 30 min in length, sometimes shorter. I have a 30 min clip that just sits there, the circle showing progress just stays empty. On a whim, I opened a new project and put a 20 second clip in there to export but still same issue. I have tried restarting my computer, force quit and deleting preferences.
