OSX 10.13.3 supplemental upgrade crashes on inst

My 2011 later model MacBook Pro 13" crashes when I do the update. It does the start, beep, apple Logo, start loading bar, crash and repeat "thing".

When I do the recovery process, it only accepts the "reload the operating system" reload option and then it works fine. We do need to do the updates.

How does one work forward to do this?

MacBook Pro, macOS High Sierra (10.13.2)
