My heart rate sensor on my Apple Watch stopped working

This morning before I started my workout my heart rate was being read. Once I started working out the green light sensor stopped working. How can I fix this? I have tried restarting my watch. Nothing seems to work.

Hi Emgargis,

Welcome to Apple Support Communities. I understand that after beginning your workout the green LED light for the heart rate sensor isn't working but prior to your workout your heart rate was being read without issue. I know how important using the Heart Rate Monitor on your Apple Watch is; I'd like to help. Since you mention you've already restarted your Apple Watch I'd next suggest that you check that your Apple Watch software is up-to-date: Update your Apple Watch

Next, check these settings through the Watch app on your iPhone:
- Open Watch App > Select My Watch tab > Workout, if "Power Saving Mode" is enabled, disable it. This setting will turn off heart rate sensors during walking and running workouts to conserve battery if enabled.
- Open Watch App > Select My Watch tab > Privacy, check that both Heart Rate and Fitness Tracking are enabled.

If you change any settings to mirror the suggestions above, test to see if the Heart Rate Monitor is functioning during a workout.

If not, or changing these settings doesn't change the behavior you're seeing, try unpairing your Apple Watch from your iPhone and setting it up again. Please keep in mind that backup of the information on your Apple Watch will be made during the unpairing process: Unpair your Apple Watch and iPhone

Let me know what you find.

Best Regards.
