Question: Deleted Contacts Still showing up in Messages

On my Mac Messages app, I start to type in a name, but it still shows contacts I deleted years ago. I cleared the 'recent contacts' on my iPhone where that still happened, but they remain on my Mac. How can I get rid of and clear recent contacts that I want forever deleted?
