Safari opens randomly

It's infuriating and of course we can't just uninstall it. I won't even be working on the computer, sitting back in my chair, and then 'Pow,' Safari opens, as if it's lonely. I have no extensions/add ons within Safari installed. I don't think any other program is trying to open it either. Chrome is set to my default browser and when Safari does open, it doesn't open any windows/tabs. It just opens without navigating anywhere.

I know others have this issue as I've seen posts about it in various places. Has anyone found any solutions or does anyone know how to track (some log file?) what is causing it to open?

Thanks!

iMac, iOS 10.2

If the above doesn't work, try running this program in your normal user account, then copy and paste the output in a reply. The program was created by etresoft, a frequent contributor. Please use copy and paste as screen shots can be hard to read. Click “Share Report” button in the toolbar, select “Copy Report” and then paste into a reply. This will show what is running on your computer. No personal information is shown. You can run the report for free at least once, but if you run it several times, at some point it will ask you to pay a license fee.

It's not going to leak out or anything crazy, is it?

what you want to watch for is swelling. That can put pressure on the trackpad and cause it to fail, and a swelling battery can eventually short circuit the battery cells causing a fire. But leak. No that is not a typical Lithium battery behavior.

NOTE: macOS power management may throttle the CPU by faking a high kernel_task load to reduce power draw by the CPU when the battery is failing, so as to extend remaining life of the battery.
