Some install CD no longer readable by CD in Sierra 10.12.6

Some older install disks no longer readable by internal CD drive or external CD drive running Sierra 10.12.6. However, DVD disks do spin up and play. I suspect it may have something to do with the file system used in Sierra. Any ideas or suggestions would be helpful. Running iMac late 2009.
