Macbook Pro shutting down after start up

I'm hoping somone might help me please.

I have a 15" MacBook Pro late 2013.

Recently upon start up with a fully charged battery my MacBook with shut down not long after I log in.

The screen turns off and it seems to power off.

When I press the power button an icon will appear on a black screen in red suggesting low power/ connect power cable. But I know there is a full battery.

When I plug the power cable in it will boot and work as normal. Unplugging the cable it still works as well.

It has been pretty cold here so I thought that might be an issue. Also I updated MacOS over a week ago.

I've run a scan on the disk and it seems OK.

Anything else I can try?

Try to reset the SMC and NVRAM.

If that didn't help the battery is most likely going bad and needs replacing. In these machines the battery is glued in and is a pain to replace. I've heard Apple isn't even doing it. They will most likely tell you to buy a new Mac, or they will give you a sky high repair quote.
