Moving files off desktop
If I go to the desktop, I can't file away these files into a "sub folder." I want to expand the files in my document and then drag/drop into a sub-folder. For example: I have Documents>File>sub file
iMac, iOS 11.2.5

Not really sure what you mean. If you have a folder inside the Documents folder you only need to drag files from the Desktop on top of the sub-folder. If there are no sub-folders inside Documents you need to create one first.
If I have a main folder, let's say Business. And inside of Business are sub folders: taxes, employees, schedule. When I look at my desktop, the only thing that I can drag/drop into is Business. I can't put them into the sub folders. I am able to drag/drop into a sub folder but only after I move the file from inside of the main folder. I want to go Desktop into the sub folder.
As an iMac cannot run iOS, what version of MacOS are you in fact running?
High Sierra.
