Answer:

When you start the app, you get a list of the iDevices that are logged into the Apple ID. A map will display the locations of all these devices. You can select each one and, after communicating with the device to get an accurate position, its location will plot on a new map. If you have selected the option when you activated the app under Settings (see my earlier post), the last known location will plot for devices that are off, in airplane mode, or otherwise not reachable.

My wife and i have shared an apple ID on both of our iPhones (as well as two iPads) for years with no difficulty. Make sure that Settings>iCloud>Find My iPhone is turned on for both devices. Then you can use Find iPhone (not Find My Friedns) to see where each other is at any given time. Works great!

Careful (said tongue in cheek), don't tell her you called her wide! Yes, you can use Find my iPhone on both phones to see where each other's phone is located. Just sign in to Find my iPhone on both and yes, when you tap on either phone, you can see the phone's location change on a map.

I am sure there is some latency, but it looks to be pretty close to real time map placement. The location shifts when you hit refresh, but the icon is static and does not move continuously the same way it does if you are using a mapping app while driving. Hope this helps; we find it useful.
