Question: Applepay not working on my MacBook pro

My MacBook Pro (2012) and iPhone both have bluetooth turned on, and have even been paired to ensure that the bluetooth is working. However, when I try to make an apple pay purchase on my MacBook, an error message comes up saying it cannot locate my iPhone. I have tried turning bluetooth on and off on both devices and restarting them.
