How can I easily digitize audio cassettes from cassette player to iMac?

I've been trying to find a way to convert my audio cassettes to digital; but the device I bought from V.TOP that was supposed to make this happen...didn't. There are a ton of cable, software, etc. available that all seem to be designed for PCs, not iMacs. And I don't know where to find the right product. I'm not computer stupid, but I'm not a genius either. So what course of action should I take that will result in satisfying digital files?

iMac, OS X Yosemite (10.10.5)

Audio-out from your player to whatever audio-in connector is used by your Mac. use adapters or single cables that do the trick.

Some kind of recording software. Audacity is free. iTunes does not do this.

Whatever secondary software you wish to use to split up tracks, ramove noise. Audacity may have plugins to do this. I did this about 15 years go and things may have changed.
