Put OS on a Mac again.

How to install OS on iMAC Hello, I recently purchased a used iMac from a public university auction. I suppose they completely wiped the iMac and for testing purposes they loaded a temporary version of windows on it. I would like to put the Mac OS back into it. It is a 2011 model. I've already tried a few things... Pressed ALT key upon start up to see if I can get into where it can let me select OS's, but only the windows one shows up. I tried downloading an older version of MAC OS into a USB and I'm not able to boot to it. I am not an expert at MAC's, this is my first that I purchased for my daughter. Thank you, Abe

What OS can I install on my old iMac (2011)? My old iMac (2011) crashed and I have restored all of my important files and a reboot. But I have no OS to open them. I will buy a new iMac soon but is there any way I can download an appropriate OS to keep me going for a few more days ? [Re-Titled by Moderator]

I have an older IMac. What do I do to be able to download the new OS? The last update I was able to complete was OS X 10.9.5 and it’s a 2013 iMac. I can no longer download any updates or stream any videos. What do I do so I can get the latest OS?
