Can't dump my trash due to a permission issue

I am trying to dump my trash where I dumped my ext HD backups. After being prompted to input my password, get this message: “The operation can’t be completed because you don’t have permission to access some of the items.”

If they are Time Machine backups you should only delete them via Time Machine interface and never through Finder because they will always get stuck in the Trash. You'll notice if you disconnect your TM drive they will vanish from the Trash, but if you then reconnect it they will again appear in your Trash. The easiest (and perhaps the only) solution is to erase your external drive and start over.
