iMac hanging

I'm not sure if this is related to this is issue iMac temperature climbing too fast. | Communities

Today my iMac went to sleep and had trouble waking back up, I restarted it and it took forever, the screen was black but I could see the cursor and move it. I did that twice but it was still rather unresponsive.

Whether online or offline it's been hanging, even moving a screenshot to the trash or attempting to empty it hangs. Checking System Preferences or the Task Manager also was hanging (rainbow circle spinning forever, sometimes freezing tabs loading and then freezing for a few minutes.)

Sometimes (like now) it seems to be working fine but I'm really worried, the local AASP takes too long to fix things and I'm afraid I might need to take it in again. I feel like crying, someone please help me!

I'm not completely confident that I can do all that, but I can try, btw, I can't do a full backup, and I only have one drive at the moment. I saved a couple things on memory cards.

I'm having problems staying online or loading pages, I wonder if I should dare to try to download an entire OS, maybe I can, the iPod seems to be connected, but I can't sign into my sessions here from there to get help if I get stuck along the way.
