iMac OSX 10.9.5

bought old desktop and previous owner cannot remember his administrator id and password. I cannot use the computer. Plus, no disc for reboot.

Is there a way to bypass or delete the current administrator and replace with my information?

Yup there is...do follow den. Thed’s suggestions as they are good, by the way...however.. in answer to your question : you’d have to boot from the Recovery Partition ( command & R held down on reboot, then go to OSX Tools( top center of screen) then go to Terminal... in the black and white screen you see type in “resetpassword” without quotes then press return. This should get you to the reset password application. Make sure your hard drive is the startup drive, then reboot. As for disks, Apple has done away with them for better or worse, at least for installing stuff, it’s either Recovery Partition,App Store, or maybe making a bootable USB stick. Assumption being that most of us have WiFi or Ethernet...etc

Oh well
