Restoring After Target Disk Mode

I have a Macbook Pro (15-inch, mid-2010) that kept freezing on the login. I tried several solutions (resetting the PRAM, starting up in safe mode, etc) and still encountered the same issue. I eventually opened up the laptop in Target Disk Mode and copied all the folders (Applications, Library, macOS Install Data, System, & Users) over to an external 2TB drive.

Wiped the internal HD and did a fresh install of High Sierra.

So now I have a clean laptop. How do I get the data from the external HD back to the internal SSD? Is it a simple copy and paste? I tried Migration Assistant and it didn't pick up the external drive....

MacBook Pro, iOS 10.1.1, Samsung Evo 1TB SSD
