Retrieving or resetting an iMac email password which is not saved in Keychain

I have had my mac.com password for many years, however it was changed not too long ago and unfortunately I can't remember it.

I have looked through the Keychain utility thinking I may have saved it but it is not there. I thought it may somehow be connected to my Apple ID password but it is not.

Why is it so difficult to retrieve or reset a password for mac.com or me.com email??

Please, can someone help me get this done so that I can see my email on my phone?
