iBooks sync failures iOS11.2 and MacOS 10.13

I have some very strange behaviours going on and would like any help that anyone may have....

iBooks on Mac - I have imported a number of ePub books into iBooks, and these can be seen on iBooks on the Mac . I have iCloud sync enabled on my iPad and Mac, but I cannot see these books on my iPad.

I open iTunes and there is an option for Books. The new books are not in the list of books that can be synced.

Help please

MacBook Pro (15-inch, Late 2016), iOS 11.2.2

Great and rapid response from Apple - if you look at collections on the iPad, there is an option at the bottom to hide iCloud books, looks to be the default option. Switch it off displays all of my books.
