I have an issue because apperently it was supposed to be the most durable glass in the world?

Glass still breaks. All materials have tradeoffs regarding hardness, strength, and toughness. And with a display you want clarity. You could have tempered glass that's strong enough until the point that it breaks, and the entire piece will shatter as the compression/tension is released. The glass could be made tougher, but at the expense of hardness (i.e. scratch resistance).
I'm not a fan of the glass back, but I would put it in a case. The glass used is meant to be scratch resistant, but not unbreakable.
Glass is still glass.
