Microphone cutting out on FaceTime

WHen FaceTiming our microphone keeps cutting in and out for the other person. We tested the microphone with a video and it doesn’t not cut out at all.

I have done a reset and our iOS is up to date

Hello ToddCarm,

Thank you for using Apple Support Communities. It's my understanding that when on FaceTime calls the audio becomes choppy, but there's no audio issue when recording videos. You've tried great steps to resolve this issue. I'm happy to help.

It's very possible your Wi-Fi connection could be causing this issue. I recommend testing the issue on another Wi-Fi network. Please review the information below:

If you have connection or sound quality issues with FaceTime

If your cellular connection or Wi-Fi network are running slow, or other users are streaming audio or video on the same Wi-Fi network, you might have these issues:

  • Connection alerts or unable to connect
  • Choppy video calls
  • Black screen
  • Dropped calls

Make sure that both you and the person that you're calling are using a fast Wi-Fi or cellular connection. If you’re using Wi-Fi, FaceTime requires a broadband connection.

If you can't make a FaceTime call on your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch

Let us know the results.

Have a wonderful day!
