How do I manually add music to my iphone

Hi there. I would like to manually drag and drop music into my iPhone from my Mac. I have the latest version of iTunes on my Mac and the latest version of music on my iPhone.

When I create a playlist in iTunes it does no propagate over to the phone and vice versa. When I do create a playlist in iTunes and drag music over to it, the music goes into the phone but not into the playlist where I want it to go.

I can manually "add music to playlist" from on my phone but this is becoming tedious when im trying to add multiple songs and albums from a single or multiple artists.

Not sure what I am doing wrong.

Go to iTunes, plug your phone into your computer, and click the little 'phone' icon that will appear in the upper left-hand corner. Then, in the menu that appears (the whole screen changes), go to 'Music' and select 'Sync Music' if that checkbox isn't already checked. From there, you can choose to sync your entire music library (recommended) or just the songs and playlists that you select. Pick one of those options from the two little 'radio buttons' that show down below.

The music isn't in iTunes when I try to add it to my playlist. In iTunes I create a playlist on my phone. I then drag music from a folder on a storage drive. The songs load into iTunes and into my phone but do not land in the playlist on the phone. The playlist appears on the phone and the music appears on the phone but the music does not go into the playlist.
