I downloaded the apple app to add a printer. It tells me there is no air printer . My printer is an hp deskjet d1520 how do I get it to print from my iphone

Did it say it would work with your printer?
Your printer is not AirPrint compatible, so will not work directly on the iPhone or any App that expects an AirPrint compatible printer. Your printer is not even network enabled. It can only be connected to a computer via USB.
There is software that can share a local printer connected to a computer to the network the computer is connected to so iOS devices can use it. But that needs to be installed on the computer not the iOS device.
