I do not own a credit card and I do not want one. My payment option for Itunes is Paypal, which is linked to my bank account. I recently set up family sharing with my daughter and since then Itunes keeps asking me to verify my payment method. Does family sharing require a credit card or will it work with paypal too?

I stand corrected. I guess I should have read further down in that article to the "Payment methods for Family Sharing: section.
I just remembered it from a previous question about FS and PP but it took digging through a bunch of links (not unusual with Apple documents)before I found where it was specifically stated.
