Question: Revert from APFS to MacOS Journalled or some other

I got a macbook air off ebay. After setting it up for use I shut down. A few days later when I turned on the macbook air it was showing a flashing envelope icon. I tried to create a High Sierra restore usb using macdaddy but the disk utility is not showing the main hard drive. 1. How do I create a restore usb with the APFS format? User uploaded fileUser uploaded file2. Is it possible to reformat the hard drive so I run Linux thereon?

If Disk Utility didn't recognize it it would have said so and asked if you wanted to format it.
