Revert from APFS to MacOS Journalled or some other

I got a macbook air off ebay. After setting it up for use I shut down. A few days later when I turned on the macbook air it was showing a flashing envelope icon. I tried to create a High Sierra restore usb using macdaddy but the disk utility is not showing the main hard drive. 1. How do I create a restore usb with the APFS format? User uploaded fileUser uploaded file2. Is it possible to reformat the hard drive so I run Linux thereon?

Question 1: don't need to format a USB drive to APFS in order to have a HS installer. Rely on Disk Maker X (you'll need to have an 8 Gbyte USB drive - at least - and an HS installer App from App store. It will do everything, from formatting to getting the USB dive as installer). CAREFULLY follow instructions.

Question 2: just Linux or Linux with Mac OS?
