Slow slow, quick quick, slow

iMac mid-2011

High Sierra 10.13.3

Hi, my Mac is painfully slow on startup (about 20 minutes). Searching Chrome can also be slow and bring up "waiting for cache".

Following another thread on here I've tried 1. turning it on and off, 2. resetting NVRAM and PRAM, 3. resetting SMC, 4. starting in Safe Mode then restarting normally.

But still no luck. Any ideas?

Thanks. Pete

Nothing really stands out on the report, as mentioned EtreCheck isn't designed to see if there is hardware issues, that requires taking it to an Apple Authorized Service Provider that has the proper diagnostic tools.

There are some other things you can check including the startup items. Look in System Preferences - Users & Groups - Select your yourself and click Login Items and then remove any that you do not need.

I would also uninstall Google Chrome as a it is resource hog, I would recommend using Safari. You can do some basic resets like resetting the SMC (2-3 times back to back) and resetting the NVRAM and also restarting in Safe Mode and then restarting normally. Instructions for each may be found in the links below:

I would start by providing an EtreCheck report, we may see evidence of a failing drive or something else causing the issue.

If it appears it's hardware and you want to keep the computer then take it to a third party AASP in your area and have an SSD installed, this will dramatically improve performance. However we may not see evidence of a failing drive, in that case you need to have it professionally diagnosed first. However then again, you may want to funnel the money into getting a new iMac too. In short, you have choices.

If you are not familiar with EtreCheck please follow the directions below.

Please post an EtreCheckreport of your system. We can then look for obvious issues. Please click the link, download the app and run the report. Once you have the report, please copy and paste it as your reply to this post.

Thanks for the info and suggestions RKaufmann. The EtreCheck is below. By the way, does the 'no major issues' part suggest the HDD is okay? Pete
