Question: The light flashes amber I have a message that it may be overheating How do i fix this

The unit which is over 2 years is correctly configured but the green light does not appear, it continues to flash amber. I get a message saying it may be overheating. I have left it unconnected to cool down but that has not solved the problem. It continues to perform back ups. Is there a solution?

iMac, OS X Yosemite (10.10.5)

If it's the "tall" model, then it would be the latest 802.11ac version. Overheating could also be a sign of a faulty device, not just ambient conditions. Also, the TC has a built in fan at the bottom of the unit. If you haven't already, try to see if there is anything (dust, etc.) blocking the ventilation ports on the bottom of the unit. The TC should not be located in an enclosure or place in an area where it would be exposed to direct sunlight for extended period of time.

The key here is if the unit is actually overheating and it's not just a failed temperature sensor, you should archive any backups stored to an external drive before you can get this resolved.
