Not "Activity Monitor" App Control?

I remember using an app that was not "Activity Monitor" on my Mac Mini which showed what I believe was all installed apps, their status (i.e. running/not running), and provided the ability to start a "not running" application. What app was I using?

Mac mini, iOS 11.2.5

GoogleSoftwareUpdate? Activity Monitor reports that, 1. I have two GoogleSoftwareUpdate applications, and 2. One of them is not responding. I did not know that I have an application with that name, let alone two. I did a search of my Mac. It found these: [username]>Library>Google>GoogleSoftwareUpdate. [HD]>Library>Google>GoogleSoftwareUpdate. I cannot tell in Activity Monitor which application is running and which is not responding. And then, as I proofread this post, both applications disappeared from Activity Monitor. Do I need either or both GoogleSoftwareUpdate applications?

Activity Monitor shows no activity Weird. It used to. And it shows activity on my other Macs. Any ideas gratefully accepted. Thanks!

Activity Monitor in macOS Catalina 10.15.7 When I try to glean any information from the Activity Monitor application in the latest version of Catalina, it only displays a column of process names without any of the other columns selected via the View menu. I have restarted the computer several times and this situation remains the same. In this condition the Activity Monitor is of no use. I am running this on a mid 2012 MBP 13" non Retina machine. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Bruce
