Split screen on videos

when I watch YouTube or other videos, turning my iPhone 7s to landscape mode splits the screen and shows bookmarks/favorites on the other side. How do I turn this off?

You may need to scroll all the way to the top but just to the left of the address bar you should see an icon that looks like an open book. Tap it and the side bar will go away.

Landscape view When I rotate my iPhone 6+ to get landscape view of a Safari page the left 40% of the screen is filled with a list of bookmarks (or other things) that I don't want, instead of providing a wider view of the page. I can't find any preference to get rid of this: is there a way?
