How to start the slideshow on iMac?

I just bought this computer and followed the instractions how to start slideshow .Choose the picture from the set , open it, go to View and press slideshow. It does nor work.

Problems creating a slideshow I'm using High Sierra 10.13.5. I am becoming more disillusioned when using either iMovie or trying to create a slideshow. I have produced multiples of these on previous apple systems but it is now much more difficult. For example, I am trying to create a simple slideshow from an album in excess of 100 photos. But I cannot get it to start where I want it to or put any of my p[ics in the order that I want without re-arranging the very very tiny row of pics at the bottom. A laborious and crazy way to have to do it. Why do Apple seem to think that they know better and make things so much more difficult. Or am I missing something. Download of iMovie I downloaded the iMovie app when I got my new iMac. The version I have seems bare boned as it does not have an intro to the iMovie options it showed on the menu. I cannot even start a new movie or trailer. Something is not right.

What app are you using to open the picture? A good free app is JView. You can get it at https://www.macupdate.com/

It is free and has slideshow capability and is compatible with High Sierra.
