What has been said by others here about Preview. Additionally, in the Adjust Size… panel, you want to check Resample image. Give some thought to your choice of resolution. You may still wind up with a image so pixelated, that it will look like the Milky Way.

When an image is on the desktop and you select it and click on open as preview , take cursor on top menu bar and click on tools > adjust size in height you only type 2560 and it automatically saves the settings as 2671.04 and in width field it saves as 1440 and you click on ok an error is shown that values are too large .

You have to reduce the dimensions .
