My iPhone broke and Verizon replaced it with a new iPhone, but i am unable to retrieve the photos from the old phone. how can I get them back?

The old iPhone would not let me press on the screen to access it. It broke because it fell out of my pocket onto concrete. I went to the nearest Verizon store and had it replaced with an iPhone 6. I could not however retrieve my old photos from the old phone. Is there a way to retrieve them. I cannot remember if I had an apple ID with that phone or not.

Thank you.

If you had iCloud Photo Library turned on in the old phone you can use any computer and log in to www.icloud.com (using the Apple ID you used on the old phone) and go to the Photos app there to see if you can see the photos. If so, you can turn iCloud Photo Library on in the new phone they will sync to it. See: iCloud Photo Library - Apple Support

If you didn't have iCloud Photo Library turned on but did backup to iCloud, you can restore the entire phone (not just the photos) from iCloud. iCloud: Restore or set up your iOS device from iCloud

If you used iTunes to back up the old phone to a computer, see: Restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch from a backup - Apple Support
