how to disable gmail archiving messages

I'm trying to simply delete eMail messages after reading them! But they (the deleted messages) continue to appear/reside in the archive folder.

How can I edit this process/action to have the option to delete/trash as opposed to archive?

Having trouble getting rid of Gmail Archive and Apple Mail Archive My IMAP mail from google is read via Apple Mail, and it is filling my hard drive (over 100Gb). Most all of it is in the "Archive", which both Apple and Google seem to really really want to keep. If I delete the messages in the Archive at Gmail, they seem to all reappear, and if i delete them from Apple Mail, all hell breaks loose - Mail went from using 63GB of space to 215GB of space. I don't want any archive!!!!! When I get messages in the inbox, I file them in separate folders according to content, or I delete them. (Of course, "delete" is a joke, it seems that they first got archived). I tried changing the setting so that messages are moved to Trash, and I empty Trash, but then I see "downloading message 10 of 41,658 messages" pop up at the bottom, and mail is full again.

Cannot delete gmail messages in mail app iOS 14.3 I cannot delete messages in my gmail account mailbox using the native mail app on iPhone. My only choice is archive (which I do not want to do, I want to delete emails). Older instructions https://discussions.apple.com/thread/250734782?answerId=250734782021#250734782021say to go Settings > Passwords & Accounts > Gmail > tap on your account at the top > Advanced > etc. But there is no 'Passwords & Accounts'. There is only Passwords and no Accounts section. Where is the setting now? (Using iOS 14.3)

Archiving the mails is just showing and giving the appearance / existence of mails that are in sent and inbox via archive folder , archiving of mails can not be " deleted " .See this thread .

How to permantl delete messages from Archive in OSX?
