Backup not completing

Why won’t my iphone backup? The last backup was on the 1st of December 2017 (which was also the first as I restored from my previous device). My seettings are set for automatic backup, although nothing happens. I often try to start a manual backup (on dsl fibre, iphone plugged in and locked).Backup start but do not finish.

See -- If iCloud Backup couldn’t be completed or you can’t restore - Apple Support.

There is no error message displayed. It just jumps back to state last backup 1 Dec 2017.

Please read my previous concern raised carefully in order to understand

Have you tried turning off the backup, restarting the device, then turning back on the backup and trying again?
