Music Playlist Folders - Mac - Problems

When I click on many of the MUSIC playlist folders I've created in iTunes 12.7.3.46 on my Mac they each contain what looks to be every podcast I've ever listened to or subscribed to. I certainly did not put them there intentionally. Further, when I highlight the files and click delete the system warns me that I will be deleting the files from my library, when all I want to do is delete them from the playlist. Right clicking on the folder does not reveal any options to delete files from the folder. It also does not show any option to add an additional playlist to the folder.

My iTunes is a mess. I am wanting to delete some music playlists and reassign various songs to others. Shouldn't this be a basic function of iTunes? If it is, how to figure out the logic behind this is so monumentally unintuitive that it is driving me bonkers. Screenshots follow:

Hi Wet Baloney,

I understand that you're having some issues removing songs from playlists, specifically when you have multiple playlists in a folder. I'm happy to provide some help for this issue.

After testing this out in a few different ways, it seems that this issue is due to viewing the folder, instead of selecting one of the individual playlists within your folder. To get the behavior that you're expecting, expand the folder and select the playlist you wish to modify. You can then select any songs in that playlist and press the Delete button or ctrl-click or right-click and select "Remove from Playlist". It's important to note that this does not work for Smart Playlists since they are updated automatically.

You can find out more about managing your playlists and playlist folders in the resource below:

Organize playlists into folders - iTunes Help

Organize playlists into folders

Create a folder: Choose File > New > Playlist Folder, then type a name for the folder and press Return.

Add items to a folder: Drag playlists or other folders into the folder.

Move a folder out of another folder: Drag it toward the left edge of the iTunes window.

Rename a folder: Double-click it and type the new name.

Create a playlist - iTunes Help

Edit a playlist

Select the playlist and do any of the following:

  • Change the order of songs: Drag the songs into the order you want.

  • Remove an item: Select the item and press the Delete key.

If the song is added to your library, this won’t remove the item from your library or storage device.
