IOS notes app scan are not readable at all on my Macbook air El Capitan 10.11.6

IOS notes app scan are not readable at all on my MacBook air running El Capitan 10.11.6

As below screenshot states - it only leads to an everlasting spinning wheel if I right-click preview on the scanned document inside the attachment folder. Please advise, and I hope the answer is not "update to latest software" but more a real answer, as this is not documented

Try going to iCloud.com using a computer to see if the items are there and whether they are from the device or the computer. That should show whether the device or the computer isn't syncing. If the computer, try going to System Preferences/iCloud and stop syncing. Wait a couple of minutes, then recheck syncing. If the device, go to Settings/Your Name/iCloud and do the above. As a last resort, you can also try signing out of iCloud and then sign in again.

Hi Eric, and thank you for your swift and supportive posting. 🙂 I am now following your directions step by step. I use only my iPhone and my MacBook air for notes. Using Safari on the very same Macbook air with the affected notes app, the scan is actually showing perfectly well, just as on my phone, all well. 😁 Once I opened the affected scan in iCloud, I got an error message regarding syncing and then a system message asking for permission to send a system generated error report from the affected app to Apple which I accepted. I then opened the system settings for iCloud which also produced another error message on syncing. I unchecked notes and left it unchecked for about 10 minutes. When opening notes app, it was completely empty. All my notes came back and as my notes filled up. However, there was no difference as to the affected scanned documents - at all. The problem is still the same. 😢 I will try to sign out of iColud and sign back in again at a later time.

Continued from my last reply, I have now unchecked/checked notes in Settings/MyName/iCloud and the result is still the same.

However, I did some sidestep research of my own. I made a few more scans, and then I Airdropped one of the scanned documents from my iPhone to my MacBook Air. Then I dragged the document from the airdrop download folder and dropped it into a note. That worked fine. It then shows up as pdf - all well.

I suspect that iCloud is using a different file format just for the scanned documents that is also the version syncing in the cloud and then it will not open in the notes app on my MacBook Air because I run El Capitan and Apple have for some reason left that new file format out as unsupported.

I have no possibility to upgrade to Sierra nor High Sierra for some time still because I am using it for production with software that is not working on the latest two versions of MacOS.

You are welcome. Clarification question - are you making the scanned document a part of notes before syncing? As a test, I added a PDF to a note, and then went to iCloud.com/Notes, I got the same error message as in your 2nd post. Notes will sync pictures, but it appears it will not sync PDFs properly. I'm not sure Notes syncing supports that document format.
