Hi

I am going to buy from a friend a Macbook black model A1181

it has a 3gb Ram how can upgrade the ram? 1gb to total of 4 gb?

and more to 6 ? or 8?

let me know before I buy a correct Ram

Sorry. I thought that the first MacBooks maxed out at Lion. In any case it's pretty old. I keep my old MacBook (2007 Santa Rosa) around, but I don't really put too much into it and definitely don't do anything with it that would require a password. It has come in handy though, such as the time I needed to reformat a drive and my mid-2012 MBP just refused to reformat an APFS volume in anything except APFS.

Also, something you should be aware of. These MacBook can only be upgraded to OS X El Capitan.


If it's the black polycarbonate shell, they're older than that. I didn't quite understand the appeal of them, especially at the premium price just for the color.


The last one was the early-2008 and would max out at Lion. Also - every black polycarbonate MacBook would have taken PC2-5300 (DDR2 667) SODIMMs.
