Thanks. It looks like they started these with the 2006 model (MA472LL/A), that maxed out with OS X 10.6.8 (Snow Leopard)
Sorry. I thought that the first MacBooks maxed out at Lion. In any case it's pretty old. I keep my old MacBook (2007 Santa Rosa) around, but I don't really put too much into it and definitely don't do anything with it that would require a password. It has come in handy though, such as the time I needed to reformat a drive and my mid-2012 MBP just refused to reformat an APFS volume in anything except APFS.
I suggest that you take a look at the following vendor who provides RAM for Macs and another that shows you the steps to do so.
Also, something you should be aware of. These MacBook can only be upgraded to OS X El Capitan.

If it's the black polycarbonate shell, they're older than that. I didn't quite understand the appeal of them, especially at the premium price just for the color.
The last one was the early-2008 and would max out at Lion. Also - every black polycarbonate MacBook would have taken PC2-5300 (DDR2 667) SODIMMs.
Hi there,
there are seventeen different models sharing this model number. So making a long story short you might check out this page and follow their instructions how to find your MB's EMC, Model ID and the corresponding maximum amount of RAM.
