why does my apple account say my iphone is not linked but my iphone is saying otherwise when trying to activate?

First time Apple user here!! So please help me to the best of your knowledge if you will! I am 65 and not very tech savvy you can say LOL!

I am sending my iPhone in for a warranty service repair and I was testing out logging out of my device to make sure that I know exactly what to do and how to do it for when the replacement phone arrives and I have to send this one back . My phone is now telling me that I am active on the ‘Find My Iphone’ app on account via phone but the app is also ‘Disabled’ however when I look at the account online it doesn’t seem to be the case and it says that my Find my IPhone is on?? I am worried that when I send the iPhone back it will say that it is still active via ‘Find My Iphone’ on my iCloud account or even worse the phone itself! How do I go about troubleshooting this problem so I do not have to worry about it the day I am supposed to send the other device in?

Thank you in Advance.

Hi Lkorth07,

Welcome to Apple Support Communities. I understand that you're having trouble confirming if you've successfully logged out of Find My iPhone on a device you're needing to return. I know it's important to be sure you've successfully signed out and prepared your device to be sent in; I'm happy to help. To turn off Find My iPhone tap Settings > Your Name > iCloud > Find My iPhone; from here tap to disable Find My iPhone so the slider changes from green to white, you'll be prompted for your Apple ID password to turn off Find My iPhone.
If you'd like to enable Find My iPhone again before your replacement arrives, tap the slider so it turns green.

You can verify that your device has been removed from Find My iPhone by signing in to iCloud.com ; while your iPhone will still be linked to iCloud in some ways, it should not appear on your list of available devices on the Find My iPhone page.

I'd also recommend using the following steps to fully sign out of iCloud on your iPhone (including Find My iPhone) and remove personal information from your device before returning it:
  1. Back up your device.
  2. Sign out of iCloud and the iTunes & App Store.
    • If you're using iOS 10.3 or later, tap Settings > [your name]. Scroll down and tap Sign Out. Enter your Apple ID password and tap Turn Off.
    • If you're using iOS 10.2 or earlier, tap Settings > iCloud > Sign Out. Tap Sign Out again, then tap Delete from My [device] and enter your Apple ID password. Then go to Settings > iTunes & App Store > Apple ID > Sign Out.
  3. Go back to Settings and tap General > Reset > Erase All Content and Settings. If you turned on Find My iPhone, you might need to enter your Apple ID and password.
  4. If asked for your device passcode or Restrictions passcode, enter it. Then tap Erase [device].
What to do before you sell or give away your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

Best Regards.
