MIDI on Logic pro x playing internal mic on Macbook pro

Hello,

I have been having a very frustrating problem with midi. I am trying to play my Yamaha Arius piano on logic, and I bought a midi to usb cord, which attaches too the usb adapter to my 2017 Macbook pro. Online it said to check the Audio midi set up, and the only thing greyed out is the "IAC driver". I also downloaded the Midi checker (i think thats what its called) and it is saying there is no driver for it. When I open logic and go to external instrument, all it plays is the internal mic on my mac, and it does a very loud high pitched sound which correlates when sound goes through. I am really new at this and all I want is too play my piano on logic lol. Please help.

iMac Pro, macOS Sierra (10.12.5)
