Can I USE PC3-12800 DDR3L DIMMs in a MacBook5,1?
I understand that in some cases faster memory will work in an old computer. And I understand that putting faster memory in won't make the computer run faster.
I'm raising the issue because I'm planning to buy new memory for a MacBookPro9,2, and I'd like to take the DIMMs now in the newer laptop and put them in the older one just to increase the amount of RAM -- essentially completing the upgrade of two machines for the price of one.
Is this likely to work? Would there be any risk in trying the newer, faster RAM in the older MacBook5,1?
Thanks very much.
