How to select multiple words on Notes or documents mac

Hi,

Can someone tell me how to select multiple words on a Notepad (or any other mac document).I would like to highlight & color those words which are on different paragraphs or lines.I know how to color them but making multiple selections is something that I am trying to figure out.

Thanks

In many applications you can select non-contiguous text by making the first selection and then holding down the command key while selecting additional text.
