I cannot access my server for file sharing (password rejected) but I can screen share (password accepted & Apple ID)
strange thing is when trying to access the server my iMac proposes an old name of the mac mini which was wiped clean and fresh install of OS 10.11.6

your ancient name has been memorized by your device. doesn't mean it is still broadcasting that name.
is afp turned on in your server? is file sharing enabled in system pref?
