On restart, my iMac cannot get past the gray Apple logo screen, with no progress bar showing. I restarted it in Recovery mode and ran first aid in disk utility. It checked out okay. I tried to restart again...same problem. Any suggestions?

Problem solved by resetting PRAM.

I should have also said I first tried starting in Safe Mode. That did not work. It again got stuck at the Apple logo screen.
