Actual cell phone calls were never, EVER possible on ANY iPod Touch or iPad.

You must be mistaken OR he had access to someone’s Wifi/MiFi hotspot device that had an iPhone connected to the mobile hotspot device to link up an iPhone to the iPod Touch.

iPod Touch models, by themselves, do not have the features or ability to make regular cell phone calls.

iPod Touches do have phone carrier SIM card trays.

iPod Touches are NOT iPhones.
