File Sharing with Windows 8 using SMB

Hi everyone,

I wanted to share files between a laptop (Windows 8) and a macbook (High Sierra) using a specific folder in the mac desktop as a "deposit" folder in which I could put files from the mac to be "withdrawn" in the laptop, so I set up to the task of enabling SMB file sharing.

The mac has 2 users, User A (admin) and User B.

Logged in with user B, I created a folder in the mac desktop. This would be my "deposit" folder.

I followed a tutorial for enabling SMB sharing since I'm kinda clueless on mac.

So, under System Preferences > Sharing > Options... I checked the SMB file sharing option, then I was instructed to select the account from which the files would be shared and enter that account credentials. I selected User B and entered the credentials.

Then, under System Preferences > Sharing, on the 'Shared Folders:' pane, I selected the "deposit" folder I had created and entered the admin credentials when asked in order to enable that folder to be shared via SMB.

Now, in the laptop, I was able to see the work group for the mac, and under it, the "deposit" folder I had selected AND the whole User B folder structure. I mean, the whole thing, files, documents, videos, everything.

Now, I didn't want to have access to the whole User B stuff, I just wanted to have access to that specific "deposit" folder I had created.

So, I read some forums and it was suggested that I had to uncheck the User B option under System Preferences > Sharing > Options..., and only check the "Share files and folders using SMB".

Did that.

Result? In the laptop, couldn't access any folder, not the deposit folder, not the entire drive from User B.

I came back and enabled User B again. And again I had access to both the folder and the whole drive.

I did the same with User A. However, all folders from User B were still shared in the laptop even when I had log in with User A, but I couldn't see the folders from User A at all.

So, what do I have to do to enable sharing that specific "deposit" folder without sharing the whole drive?

How can I share ONLY a specific folder in the desktop from User A to the laptop, and another specific folder in the desktop of User B to the laptop WITHOUT sharing all of them folders?

The final result I need is this:

User A - desktop folder shared with laptop - No other folders shared

User B - desktop folder shared with laptop - No other folders shared

Or even better:

1 single folder (doesn't need to be on the desktop) shared between User A, User B AND the laptop, and nothing else

Is this even possible?

Thanks in advance!
