If my ipad 2 suddenly required activation is all data lost?

Really disappointed that the ipad has locked up.

We have no wifi so the unit is completely useless.

And what about all our data?

Is your iPad 2 a cellular data model?

You purchased a Internet style Wifi/Cellular mobile device and never had any way of accessing the Internet for the device?

No computer with iTunes and Internet access, either?

How have you been able to downloaded and install apps on this device?

All the years you have had this iPad, you never had a way to do backups to iCloud or to iTunes on a computer?

iDevices are not really meant to be offline self-sustaining mobile computing devices. Especially not designed for long term storage of data.

A rule of thumb is any type of computing device can fail at any time for any reason.

It’s not a matter of IF a computing device will fail, but WHEN!

Your data may still be intact, even though your iPad 2 is asking for activation.

So you maybe lucky.

The data is stored in flash memory which is not affected as long as your iPad 2 isn’t erased and reset and setup as a new iPad.
