old apple id accounts with invalid email address

years ago I had a Apple ID account on my iphone 5, I change to another email account because my old email address is invalid now and I did not log out of the old account first, now my phone is stuck with a invalid email account that I cannot sign in or out of so I can update my account to the new email address. I set up a new Apple ID account and changed to my new iphone 6s plus...but it only recognises my old email address

Issues after updating Apple ID email. Hi, I recently changed the email address associated with my Apple ID account, this worked perfectly on my iPhone and is now all set up. However my iPad is still showing my previous email address, when asked for the password for that account it comes up as incorrect, I assume this is because that account technically no longer exists. As a result I can't sign out of the account on my iPad and in again. The account is still the same the only difference is the email address associated with it. Any advice/help would be much appreciated! Thank you.
