Answer:
Answer:

Are you deleting the photos from your Photos Library, after you add them to the book? The books are only referencing the photos in the library, they are using. They are not storing separate copies.

Are you using iCloud Photo Library?

If you get the stick back and the owner did not erase the photos from the stick, Photos may find them automatically, if you used referenced files. If not, and the owner has to copy the photos back to the stick, you may need to point photos to the new copies on the stick, when it gives an error message about missing originals.

Possibly - mount it and see

Are the photo on the USB stick or is the Photos library on the USB stick

If the photos are on the USB stick and the Photos library is on your main hard drive how were these photo import to Photos, as referenced (you unchecked the Photos preference to copy imported items to the Photos library) or managed (that preference is unchanged from its default? Note that unchecking this preference is NOT recommended - :Disadvantages of a Referenced Library in Photos

Many thanks. The USB stick will still have all the photos on them and it was a friend who brought it round for me to make the photo album for her...and once we'd filled the book, she took the USB stick away. So I'll get the USB back and hope that the pics self populate again. Fingers crossed X

Good tips. Thanks Larry. I imported them from a pal's USB stick to my hard drive but assumed that once we'd completed the book, it would be safe until we electronically sent it off with payment to be turned into a hard back. Therefore I returned the USB stick and deleted some of the source info. I'll look into the Preference aspect. Cheers.
