Preference Panes missing in Home folder Library

The object being removal of Magic Mouse files , or what were -'Plists'- , pursuing a remedy for the continuing degradation in devices effectiveness .

Finder preferences unset The preferences in Finder become unset. It seems pretty random. Today the 'Applications' folder was unticked in the Finder Preferences, previously half a dozen folders have been unticked. I keep all the Finder folder Preferences ticked as my default state, so it's easy to notice when one disappears. What could be changing them? What's the best way to stop the behaviour? I could just take a copy of: -rw------- 1 user staff 236787 Dec 24 08:08 /Users/user/Library/Preferences/com.apple.finder.plist and replace it every so often with a cron job, but that seems a very messy solution. It looks like very big .plist file. Is that the problem? Should I just delete it and then set the preferences again and hope it stops happening?

Finder Preferences -> Sidebar The finder sidebar is missing a few items: the home directory, documents, music, pictures and movies. I go to: Finder Preferences -> Sidebar where I tick all the items. The finder sidebar stays the same, and if I leave the sidebar preferences and return, they're unticked again! It seems that Finder is determined not to allow me to have these in my sidebar? Why? I do have my user account on a separate drive, but, surely, this has been a normal thing to do for a very long time.

Change of place of utilities folder My utilities folder has moved to the top left side corner of the App Library page. I don’t know how to move it back. Please help.
